| | | H. Upmann Sir Winston | | | A benchmark of excellence for all Churchills, this noble smoke delicately balances power and elegance and fills the palate with smooth notes of oiled leather, clean tobacco and freshly crushed herbs. It's a marvelous cigar that can easily be enjoyed as a languorous afternoon smoke. | | | | | | | Romeo y Julieta Churchills | | | This reputable smoke always manages to make the list as its incomparably style maintains consistency throughout the years.
Remarkable aromas of freshly cut flowers, vanilla, cocoa, coffee and chopped wood abound. A well balanced cigar that starts off quite smoothly and culminates in a powerful potpourri of exciting flavors. | | | | | | | Sancho Panza Coronas Gigantes | | | An underdog that we've been tracking for quite some time now. This mild cigar always seems surprise our palates with tangy notes of cocoa, vanilla beans and roasted coffee. Very well balanced and consistent throughout all three tiers this cigar can be as equally exciting for both the beginner smoker and seasoned palate who enjoys the finer and less boisterous things in life.
| | | Hoyo de Monterrey Double Coronas | | | No great surprise that this cigar would take the cake. It's an ever-so agreeable smoke that spells bliss with each puff. Mild to medium in flavor, this is the perfect cigar to enjoy in the afternoon or after a fine dinner. | | | | | | | Ramon Allones Gigantes | | | An impressive cigar that will never let you down. For some it is the best Double Corona cigar ever made and for us it came pretty close.
Medium in flavor and very impressive notes of clean tobacco toasted nuts and crushed herbs abound.
| | | | | | | Partagas Lusitanias | | | A strong arm for thrill-sseekers or experienced palates looking to challenge their palate.
Earthy notes of fresh soil and dark spices quickly fill the palate upon the first puff.sssa
A little Port wine is recommended to fully enjoy the experience.
| | | Bolivar Petit Coronas | | | Again and again, throughout the year, this cigar proved itself to be consistent, flavorful and very boisterous in flavor for a Petit Corona. It's a little smoke packed with old school candor. Notes of earth, crushed black pepper and a splash of citrus abound. | | | | | | | Cohiba Secretos | | | Even though this newcomer only made an appearance mid-year, it deserves to be mentioned in our Best in Show series, as this Petit Corona is as elegant as any little smoke can get. An underlying finesse cradles you through this smoke that takes all of 20 minutes to leave a lasting impression. | | | | | | | El Rey del Mundo Petit Coronas | | | A walk in the park or a quick coffee with a friend are both perfect excuses to enjoy one of the most fragrant and frivolous Petit Coronas ever made. Contrary to the two aforementioned opponents, this Petit Corona has nothing to prove as its mild and pleasant taste is precisely why we love this smoke so much. | | | | | | |
| | | Bolivar Belicosos Finos | | | Time after time, this Belicoso makes our top charts because of its consistency in both flavor and construction. It's an easy smoke that can be enjoyed by novice and expert alike. All of Bolivars most typical flavors are blended together to form a well-balanced smoke with ample draw. | | | | | | | San Cristobal de La Habana La Punta | | | This often overlooked cigar deserves more merit and recognition for the progress and consistency it has shown throughout the years. Relatively young in comparison to the other old-school brands (San Cristobal launched in 1999), the brand's Belicoso, the La Punta, was quick to reach the heels of other better known Belicosos on the market. Pleasant flavors of vanilla, cocoa and coffee are present throughout this cigar and the smoke is rich and ample on the palate. A mouthful of creamy treats. | | | | | | | Romeo y Julieta Belicosos | | | Making the mark once again this year, the Romeo y Julieta Belicoso remains ever so true to its style and character. A potpourri of flavors envelop the palate with every puff and as this wild medley of fruits, flowers, minerals, tobacco, woods and leathers rush through the senses, you find yourself nearing your lips to the cigar for yet another dizzying puff. A Romeo y Julieta by excellence! | | | | | | |
| | | Partagas Série D No. 4 | | | It came as no surprise that the D4 would once again make our top ranks. It's a muscular cigar filled with notes of toiled soil, thickly ground pepper blended into those unmistakable Ligero leaves that lend all the strength to this powerhouse smoke. The smoke is ample and well-rounded on the palate. | | | | | | | Ramon Allones Specially Selected | | | Technically this cigar has the best value for flavor proportion. For aficionados it's a Robusto that can be enjoyed without guilt for indulgence. Rich in flavor and packed with lip smacking tobacco, the Ramon Allones never ceases to please and tease our palates. | | | | | | | Bolivar Royal Coronas | | | We all know what to expect with this noble and very elegant robusto. Unlike the other members of the Bolivar family, this robusto acts as the wise, soft spoken uncle, whose balance and sweet backbone make for a pillar of strength and unassuming power. Tasty, delicious and all around great. | | | | | | |
| | | Punch Punch-Punch | | | Throughout the year this Corona Gorda repeatedly showed itself to be the 'Best in Show'. It's a classic among all classic Habanos cigars, enjoyed in part for it's accessible girth as for it's unassuming power and spice. A perfectly animated 30 minute smoke that will never bore you or leave you wanting just a little more. | | | | | | | H. Upmann Magnum 46 | | | This was a close runner up to the winning Punch Punch as the Magnum 46 is another all time favorite. The quality is always tip top, the construction nears perfection and the smoke is rich on the palate. We characterize it more as a fresh smoke when compared to the Punch Punch. With 3-5 years of age, the strength of this cigar increases - hence the name Magnum 46. | | | | | | | Punch Royal Selección No. 11 | | | An old time favorite among collectors and seasoned smokers who enjoy a little more spice in their daily smoke. In rank, this would be the strongest among the three top selections. The Punch Punch follows with the Magnum 46 being the mildest among the three - even though it is actually considered to be a medium bodied smoke. | | | | | | |
| | | Montecristo No. 2 | | | Unrivaled in its category, the Montecristo No. 2 always manages to take the cake, the blue ribbon and the spotlight too. Other than being one of the most consistent and reliable torpedos in production, this cigar also happens to be very flavorful as well! Characterized by the three notes of bean (coffee, cocoa and vanilla) perfectly blended to include a tart citrus backbone, this torpedo will never bore even the most seasoned palates. and | | | | | | | Diplomaticos No. 2 | | | Feverishly loved by aficionados and cult followers of the brand, the Dimplomaticos No. 2 rarely lets anyone down. Over the past year we enjoyed good batches of this torpedo and we were happy to ship them along for the sheer enjoyment of these aforementioned 'cult followers'. While most smokers believe this to be a strong cigar, the opposite is true. The Diplomaticos No. 2 is much milder in nature when compared to the Montecristo No. 2. | | | | | | | H. Upmann No. 2 | | | Characterized by its clean tobacco taste, this cigar should actually be in a tie with the Diplomaticos No. 2, our runner-up this year. A tastefully complex cigar that maintains its strength throughout the three tiers. Stronger than the Diplomaticos but slightly milder than the Montecristo No. 2, the H. Upmann looses all inhibitions with a little age. It's a well-constructed cigar with a very elegant evolution due to the conical tip that helps tune the tobacco to your palate. | | | | | | |
| | | Cuaba Distinguidos | | | An absolute treat for the palate. What seems to start off as a mild and very coy cigar develops into a multi-lingual oratory. An eyebrow raiser, cocktail party topic and the perfect companion after your spouse and favorite pet. Don't be dissuaded by the size of this cigar as within its large build lays a very complex and emotional smoke. Try it, if you haven't already. | | | | | | | Cuaba Divinos | | | Unlike the Distinguido, this powerful little smoke purses lips with its sweet bitterness and woody aftertaste, that seems to linger hours later. An exciting lip-smacking punch with a twang a fierce tang and all things good. We noted a consistent physical reaction to this cigar prior to lighting one up - our jowls always seem to tingle in anticipation of the rush to come. | | | | | | |
| | | Bolivar Gold Medal | | | What can be said about one of this year's most exciting releases? Loads. Simply light one up and see for yourself. Of all the lonsdales in production, this one definitely took us by surprise as it somehow manages to maintain a delicate balance between brawny notes of shoveled soil, chopped wood and sweet holiday spices. | | | | | | | Bolivar Inmensas | | | Another one of our favorite Lonsdales, that would have stolen the show had it not been for the boisterous Gold Medal who arrived a little late in the game. Nonetheless, this Lonsdales' language is of a very different kind. Soft-spoken, gentle and very elegant, the Bolivar Lonsdale never ceases to impress us with its inherent complexity and finesse. For a much milder version of the Gold Medal, this smoke is your partner. | | | | | | | Montecristo No. 1 | | | Equal in candor to the Montecristo No. 2, but different in size, the flavors of this Lonsdale are immediately apparent from the first puff onward. Bean notes abound and this year we've transformed its ubiquitous 'tang' into citrus rinds as this descriptive seems to suit the cigar much better. | | | | | | |
| | | Montecristo Petit Edmundo | | | This stout cigar took us all by surprise this year, as no one really expected it would make such a splash on the market. Packed with flavor and all the character its older brother should have had, this 'Petit Edmundo' is no lightweight in the world of 'smaller' cigars. Notes of whole pepper, freshly cut wood and cocoa abound. A complete heat-breaker, as most would agree. | | | | | | | Bolivar Gold Medal | | | While we included this cigar as one of the Best Lonsdales of the year, it deserves a second mention in this category, as the Gold Medal really did take us all by surprise. While the cigar in itself could use some age to mellow out a little, it's worth collecting and setting aside for years to come. | | | | | | | Hoyo de Monterrey Regalos | | | As with all Hoyo Limited Editions, it really came as no surprise that this cigar would be yet another measure of excellence. The leaves used to blend this cigar come from the finest fields in Cuba, which is why the cigar is smooth, elegant and simply divine. It's not a cigar that we recommend enjoying while engaging in any type of mental activity as your mind will inevitably wander away to your favorite place on earth. | | | | | | |
