The pianist and composer Avo Uvezian was already known to jazz lovers when he settled in Puerto Rico in the 1980s. He gave the guests a taste of the cigars that he had made for his private use. His customers were so impressed by the first AVO cigars that Avo Uvezian decided to try his luck as a cigar manufacturer. Davidoff cigars are produced in the Dominican Republic and Honduras, the tobacco is sourced from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Ecuador, Honduras and the United States of America. The brand name Davidoff originates from the name of its Russian Empire-born Jewish founder, Zino Davidoff, who ran a tobacco specialist shop in Geneva, Switzerland, from 1936 to 1994. He was known as "King of Cigars".

The idea to venture into the production of cigars was born a few years ago, when two friends, both cigar connoisseurs, decided to start this adventure. La Aurora was founded on October 3rd, 1903 by Eduardo León Jimenes, a hard worker man who was son and grandson of tobacco growers, that, without neglecting his family tradition, decided to go a step further with the creation of a cigar brand which he intended to have a global dimension. The founder was back then only 18 years old, he inherited some “tareas” of land and with a reduced roster of six employees, a great enthusiasm and much effort, he began to build his dream.
